Frequently Asked Questions

AI Research 1:1s are targeted programs designed for students aiming to achieve specific project objectives, such as defining and completing a science fair project, publishing a paper, or entering a competition. In these 1:1 sessions, we collaborate with the student to identify areas of interest for pursuing an AI research project. Once the student and mentor generate an idea, we conduct a feasibility analysis to determine whether we can support the project. If the project is feasible, we then develop a custom curriculum tailored to that specific project.

The curriculum is designed to meet the student and project needs, encompassing concept learning, practical experience in AI and coding, research methodology, and guidance on preparing white papers, presentations, and videos for submission to their target competition, conference, or journal. All projects are eligible to be included in the student's data science portfolio.

Each student is paired with both a mentor and an instructor. The mentor oversees the student's overall development, while the instructor focuses on strengthening the student's understanding of core concepts and skill practice. AIClub assigns a mentor to guide the student throughout the entire project, as well as instructors for specific areas like AI, coding, and presentations. Our design team also collaborates with students to create polished videos or other content needed for their competition entries.

We recommend a 30 min (free) consultation where one of our team members will meet with you and your student to answer any questions you might have about the program.

Typical sessions are 1 hour per week. More can be scheduled if needed (for example if a competition deadline is approaching). Sessions can also be paused, in instances where the student is having APs. The schedule is completely customizable. Our coordinators (coordinator@aiclub.world) will stay in touch with you and make adjustments as needed.

A comprehensive update will be provided after the student reaches a milestone in their project. All sessions are recorded, and the student or parent can review if needed. Recordings are posted to the student's dedicated slack channel after each session. Parents can also inform us and join any session if they need to discuss the project or their targets with their mentor.

The first 2-3 sessions are for brainstorming and learning AI basics, where we'll help you come up with ideas based off your interests and problems that you may want to solve using AI. Learning AI basics will also give you an idea on how to look at the research problem. Brainstorming is done by the mentor in the first half of the session followed by the instructor teaching the concepts in the second half.
